Lionel Asbo by Martin Amis book cover
So November somehow morphed in J. K. Rowling month here at Bibliofreak.net - apologies to all those who aren't fans - I promise to keep Potter reviews more steadily spread across a wider range of book talk from now on.

Talking of boring you lovely readers with well-worn themes, I think it must be time for another Amis review. His new book, I think: Lionel Asbo. As you can see from the cover, Lionel is perhaps not the ideal citizen, and when he wins £139 million on the lottery things go from bad to worse. Reviews have been reasonable, so I'm hopeful that this is Amis in pure satire mode - we shall see.

The other main thing I want to read this month is The Hobbit. I expect a good many of you have read this at some point in your childhood, and with the film coming out this month, I thought it would be an excellent time to dip in and enjoy some hobbit-y adventures together.

Let's see, the Potter reviews are backing up a little bit despite the recent splurge, so I think I might write something about Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire this month.

Finally, I'm going to write about Sleeping Patterns by J. R. Crook. This is a slim novel, which delivers a neat but thoughtful meditation on the author-reader relationship and consciousness, through a fragmented narrative. Bring on literary theory galore and so many layers of meta-fiction that one would consider the multi-layered world of Inception a whisp of whimsy in comparison. All being well, I should also be posting an interview with the author.

And being the Christmas season, there may be the odd treat on the horizon too. But, as we won't speak again until the season is behind us, I will take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy Christmas and thank you for popping by to read my ramblings over the course of 2012 - as Jesus would have put it: I bloody love you guys.
